Ashlyn & Alex Updates 6-30-2006
Ashlyn just turned 2 on Tuesday 6/27. It’s been a busy year for all of us. Yes, Ashlyn too, because she helped entertaining her little brother Alex.
We celebrated her birthday at Chuck-E-Cheese, and everyone, well, the kids, had a blast, even Alex.
Ashlyn has been quite talkative for the past 3 months. She started to “cooking congee”, meaning talking on the phone for a long period of time a lot. Who she talked to? Basically, everybody, that including her imaginary friend. She wasn’t talking non-sense, everything she said meant something, the only problem was, we didn’t understand half of the conversation. She also sings and dances. She can sing Happy Birthday, with emphasis on HAPPY and TO YOU, never missed a beat. She can also sing Twinkle Twinkle little star, If you happy and you know it clap your hands with gestures. She can hum couple other songs with the last word of each sentence singing out loud.
Ashlyn obviously has mastered calling Ba Ba, Ma Ma and Yee Yee (Auntie in Cantonese). She can also say Yee Por (Great Aunt), and Kia, well, not exactly the brand of the car, it’s the name of Auntie Jacqueline’s boyfriend. She had learned so many vocabularies in the past few months, such as UP, “Ha Bin” meaning downstairs in Cantonese, Yu Yu (fish), Yau (there is), Mo (no more), Guy Guy (going out), and many more. We are so proud of her.
Ashlyn has also master one more thing, blowing out the candles. She has been practicing since beginning of June, from her Lunar calendar birthday. We had a group celebration with 2 of her Yee Por and Auntie Stephanie, and then we had another little celebration for Ashlyn on the exact date of her Lunar birthday. She had requested to relit the candles… well, maybe a dozen times, and of course, sang the birthday song a dozen times, so that she can blow out the candles and the lyric of the song down again and again. On her 6/27 birthday, we relit the candles 3 times, and she asked Uncle Edmond herself to relit the candle, by pointing at him. We had to stop reliting the candles, otherwise, we would’ve been staying at Chuck-E-Cheese just blowing out candles and singing birthday songs until they close. I think people around us thought we’re crazy to sing the song 3 time already.
Ashlyn is developing her personality now. Who says like mother like daughter? Whoever said that, is a genius. Ashlyn loves to dress up and always asks us to take her out, always wants to go Guy Guy. She loves pretty clothes. One time I brought home a shopping bag, as soon as she saw it, she was pointing at the bag. She pulled out everything and kept on saying "WOW", and put the new clothes on herself and catwalk around. Girls always be girls. *SIGH*
O, one very important thing. Her hair grew longer and a little thicker!! Ha Ha!!
As for Alex, he will be turning 11 months old in couple of days. Like sister like brother, Alex loves to talk on the phone too. Out of the blue one day at dinner table, he put our cellphone next to his ear and started to yell “WEI WEI”, everybody was amazed, even the waiter was stunned! (check out our website where I posted his phone conversation video.
Alex loves singing and dancing too. Whenever he hears a tune, he bounces his little body, claps his hands and sings along. He claps his hands at the appropriate moment whenever we sing If you happy and you know it clap your hands (clap clap). He will be laughing and giggling and being proud of himself.
Alex is very talkative as I have mentioned. He started to babble the moment he opens his eyes in the morning, all through the day until he is sound asleep. Yup, sound asleep, he keeps on babbling even he’s falling asleep, just like Ashlyn when she was his age, it’s kind of like the last complaint of the day. Can’t blame him, he is just being himself, he was born in the year of Rooster. So far, as we understand, Alex has learned to say 3 works with gestures. HI, BYE and Dell. No, not DELL the computer brand, it’s the sound of it in Cantonese meaning throwing away, and he actually throwing away things in his hands when he was saying the word. Geez! no Ba Ba, no Ma Ma, but we got DELL. What’s up with that??
Alex isn’t walking yet, but we think he will be soon. He has been pacing along inside his crib, along the sofa, and he seems to be enjoying the walk when we let him walk with our help.
Sibling rivalry. I don’t think anybody would believe me if I told you “No, there isn’t any”. Well, Ashlyn is a caring sister, but sometimes, she could be tough on Alex, and vice versa. Neither of them is letting go the “toy” easy. The only thing I can say now is, having more and longer hair has no advantage or whatsoever.
Until next time.
