What’s Your Name?
Ashlyn has mastered her Chinese name 曦怡 a long time ago, maybe it’s because we rarely called her by her English name. Chinese name is so much easier for the folks at home. We taught her to say “Ashlyn” occasionally, but not insisting she has to say it. When we call her by Ashlyn, she responds. That’s good, at least she knows that’s her name.
Starting from this week, for some reason, she kept telling everyone her name is Ah-She-Lyn. She kept saying in Chinese “I am Ah-she-lyn and he is Alex” 我係 Ah-she-lyn, 細老係Alex 呀.
I guess this is good enough for now. I’m so glad we didn’t name her Audrey, it’s a pretty name, but I am sure “some” people will be pronunciation challenged. It will definitely turn into “All-Jue” and y’all Cantonese out there know exactly what I’m talking about.
