Woo Hoo! They’ve done it! Ashlyn & Alex have completed the mission as the flower girl and ring bearer 2 Saturdays ago. SO SO proud of them. It was officially their first wedding. They were the flower girl and ring bearer for my brother’s wedding 3 years ago in Las Vegas, but Ashlyn was only 8 months old, too young to walk, so I had to carry her, and Alex was about 4 months old in my womb, so I had to carry him down the aisle, too.
We arrived at the church about 30mins before the wedding ceremony began. I knew Alex had no problem or what so ever. Ashlyn was still kind of shy and held on to me the entire time. She didn’t like the loud organ music, so I took her to the bride’s waiting room, and walked around to ease her up a little.
As the time get closer, I took the kids with me and waited in the foyer area, but Ashlyn kept on saying she wanted to go back in to seat down. I kept them busy, asked them to watch from the outside when the mothers were lighting up the unity candles. Soon, the bridesmaids came and lined up, so I took Ashlyn & Alex to line up after the Matron of Honor. Ashlyn & Alex were surprisingly calm, and I was in disbelieve. I was nervous, not sure what would happen.
Ashlyn & Alex were supposed to wait for the Church coordinator to give them signal to walk. Alex couldn’t wait, he jump started but I was able to get him to come back to me and wait. I told them, “you see baba (daddy) is on the other end waiting for you…” Before I could continue to say walk slowly so that people can see your pretty dress and tux, instead of walking down the aisle gracefully, Ashlyn ran off to her daddy. Then I let Alex go, and he ran down the aisle too. They ran so fast as if they were sprinting the 100m in the Olympics. My mom told me afterwards that as Ashlyn was running down the aisle, she heard people behind her saying “aiya aiya, how come??” I don’t think it’s a big deal, afterall they are kids, unpredictable. It’s better for them to run down the aisle with a big smile on their faces, rather than crying, whining, stopped in the middle, or even running the other way. I think it was a good memory for everyone to remember. I am glad that everything came through.
See Ashlyn & Alex in action.
