Tiring Weekend

There were so many activities went on over the past couple of days, I’m still trying to recuperate. First off, getting ready for Baby Ryan’s first US visit, meaning lots of moving things around, and cleaning up to do. Then, preparation for Ashlyn’s birthday parties, note, P-A-R-T-I-E-S, plural, one at the childcare center, one at home with relatives. I have been trying to wrap her presents after she’s asleep, but I fell asleep with her too, so I had to make a quick trip home after I dropped her off at my aunt’s after school. On Saturday, it was my cousin Jessica’s big day - wedding day. Although she opted for the simplified version, no ceremony, just the traditional Chinese tea ceremony and banquet at night, but I was exhausted. Thought I could spend Sunday at home, doing nothing. WRONG!!! My cousin visiting from Canada, attending Jessica’s banquet, they’re cousins by “marriage” kind of, but they’re also classmates from elementary school in Hong Kong. Since she’s in town, we went dim sum with grandparents, then done some shopping for Baby Ryan. By the time we got home, it was dinner time. We had so much left over from the wedding banquet that could feed us for the next 2 weeks.

I will go into details individually and share pictures shortly. All I wanted to do now is to catch up with my beauty sleep.

Iron On - 101

In 2 days, it’s Ashlyn’s 4th Birthday. I have been looking forward to her birthday weeks ago, because she is going to have her first birthday party at the childcare center, celebrating with her new friends.

I have been discussing what to get for the favor bags with Elaine, and finally got all I needed online.

Last week, after a quick lunch in the mall with my lunch buddy, we were attracted by a sign of a kids clothing store. “up to 60% off”, how could we miss it??!! I saw a white tee, with “Birthday Girl” on the front, a little bit of sequins sewed on. The damage? $19.50. In my opinion, and Vivien’s, not worth it. So, over the weekend, the idea of D.I.Y. crossed my mind, since I already bought Ashlyn couple of white tees for $1.99 each. I began to search online for iron on graphics.

Voila! Perfect! Found it! Elaine and Vivien approved it. I’m sure Ashlyn would approve it too, cux it says “Birthday Princess” with lots of blings.

I received the graphic on Tuesday afternoon, as soon as I got home from work, I locked myself in the bathroom, make sure Ashlyn won’t see it, with all the things I needed, I began to work on my little project. As a result, well, see it for yourself.

I’m crafty. What can I say?

Head Lice

Filed under: My 2 Little Rascals

We received an email yesterday from the childcare facility, notifying the parents that there was a case of head lice in Ashlyn’s homebase, or her next door homebase. The kid was sent home immediately, and we were asked to have our kids checked at the entrance for head lice before entering the classroom in the next 10 school days.

As we dropped off Ashlyn this morning, all her blankie, pillow, clothings were already bagged for us to take home to clean. Everything in her homebase was cleaned and disinfected. For the rest of the facility, kids were checked individually at their homebases by caregivers.

Buy 1 Get 1 Free

Buy 1 Get 1 Free. Good Deal Hun? That’s 50% off. As a bargain mom, how can I let it pass. Yup, that’s exactly what happened when I saw this toddler tee in Hong Kong. I couldn’t resist. Click on image to see the picture of this great deal.

.

.
Haha! Got-cha! They didn’t have the promotion for the tee itself, it was the graphic, it says “Brother and Sister, buy 1 get 1 free” Even Ashlyn & Alex couldn’t help and thought that was a great deal. Look at them, how happy they were.

Ashlyn has a green one, and Alex has a black one. Too bad I wasn’t able to get the both of them to model the tee. Maybe next time.

Little Pig - RYAN

My brother, Jeff, and sister-in-law, Penny, finally decided on the American name for their baby boy. It’s been 3 months and we have been calling his baby just baby, or BB, or Jai Jai. Now, we can officially introduce his baby boy with an American name. *Drum roll* RYAN.

In just a bit less than 2 weeks, little Ryan is going to have his first airplane experience, and it’s a long haul flight too. He will be visiting to the States with his brand new US passport for the first time. By the way, his passport picture is quite nice, for a baby, u know.

It’s been a little while since I have posted the comparison pictures of Jeff and Ryan. Now, let’s compare some other pictures. Pictures provided by my brother Jeff.

When businesses want to get more done, what would they do? Hire more temporary employees? Now, they can turn to Task Market by Microsoft. They can hire the help and get the task done. Want some extra income, find a task and complete it, you will be paid via Paypal. It’s simple. People can Get more business done faster with Task Market.

Press Release:

Welcome to the launch of the Task Economy. We’d like you to be among the first to experience it, kick the tires, and share your opinions with your readers.

Microsoft® Task Market is a new Technology Preview site that lets people with tasks find people with the know-how to do them – saving time, and improving the end product.

For every person who throws up both hands at the prospect of creating a complex formula in Microsoft Excel, somewhere in the world there’s another person who can make it look easy. For every poor proofreader, there’s an expert one out there who wouldn’t mind making a few extra dollars. For every small business owner who doesn’t have time to do background research on a new business prospect, there’s a talented researcher who could quickly put together a dossier.

The big idea with Task Market is this: create a viable market to get them together and things get done.

Task Market is in the Technology Preview stage. That means that developers at Microsoft Research are releasing the site “into the wild” to demonstrate the potential of the technology, investigate the breadth of user adoption, solicit ideas on how to improve the site and, ultimately, create a market of Task Posters and Task Solvers to help people get their office tasks done.

A Task Market Task is:

· Something that can be done for $20 to $500

· Something that the Task Poster could use help doing

· Something that can be delivered electronically, like a Microsoft Office document.

A Task Market Poster might need help with:

· a specialized Excel formula

· language translation

· letter writing

· an aspect of their accounting

· making a PowerPoint presentation “pretty”

· graphics, charts, formatting or logos

· research gathering

· proofreading

· building sell sheets, listing sheets or simple brochures

· fact checking

Task Market Solvers create profiles of their skills to help Posters assign tasks to Solvers with the right skill sets, and get email alerts when a job arrives that fits their skillsets. Posters can award and pay several solvers for tasks to compare results, and give more work to the ones they like. All without the commitment of a freelance engagement.

Check out the working tech preview at www.taskmarket.com . Who knows. We may be building a whole new economy. We’d like to start with you and your readers. Let me know if you have any questions.

Goddies from Hong Kong #1

Filed under: Shopping MaMa, Me Me ME

All my dear friends know how much I love to shop. It could be in upscale department stores, that usually just window shopping, and if I did make a purchase from these stores, items must be from the sale racks. I wouldn’t miss the chance to dig for exceptional deals at discount shops, or fighting for the great stuff with other moms at the street hawker stands (that usually happened in Hong Kong only).

“The item” I purchased from the Hong Kong trip was a ring I got from a friend’s jewelry shop. It caught my eyes cux it’s simple, but yet multi-functional. The price tag was in the 5-figure (Hong Kong dollars), which is in the mid-4-digits in US dollars. Since it’s her family business and they are wholesaler, let’s just say I got a pretty good deal.

OK, back to the ring. It is a ring, but, you can wear it as a pandent — 2 ways. Pictures tell a thousand words.

There will be more goodies to come!
